Infant massage course syllabus
At IAIM we believe there are no shortcuts to becoming a competent, confident infant massage instructor. The IAIM instructor training course consists of an intensive four day workshop, followed by an open book exam and a requirement to teach what you have learnt to a minimum of five parents and their babies. The massage routines we teach are all clinically approved, and include a blend of Swedish and Indian massage techniques, reflexology methods and touch relaxation techniques from Yoga practice. The IAIM course also encompasses an ancient lullaby that is well known for soothing a crying baby and its carer, an overview of the latest clinical research findings on infant massage and much, much more.
Topics explored during the four day workshop include:
- An in depth review of research on the effects & benefits of Infant Massage
- The relationship between Infant Massage & bonding
- Infant Development: understanding & responding to individual needs & cues
- Adapting massage for babies with colic, pre-maturity, & extra needs
- Contraindications - when not to massage & safety guidelines for the use of oils
